Building Your House

“A Wise Woman Builds Her House”

Psalms 127:1 - Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it

Do you remember the story of The Three Little Pigs? Well, the short version is that the three little pigs had to build a house to get away from the bad wolf. The 1st one built his house out of straw, and the wolf blew the house down and ate him up; the 2nd one built his house out of sticks, and when the wolf came he did the same and blew his house down; but the 3rd piggy built his house out of bricks, and the wolf huffed and puffed and he wasn’t able to blow the house down. Now, I’ve seen story books and seen the houses, and the structure of the houses were the same; however, the outcomes were different b/c what the house was made of was different.

Much like the story, the enemy (Satan) is huffing and puffing, and he wants to blow your house down, so that he can devour you; however, as wives, we must be determined to build a stable house, so that he can and will not come in. Proverbs 14:1 (NLT) – “A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands.”

I failed to mention an important part of the Three Little Pigs story. The third piggy, not only built a house that withstood the wolf’s attempts to destroy, but in the end he devoured the wolf. The wolf tried to come down the chimney, and the little piggy had pot of water waiting for him, he boiled him and devoured him.

That’s just like with us, yes, the enemy is going to huff and puff; and the truth of the matter is that he is not going to give up easily b/c he comes to KILL, STEAL, and DESTROY (John 10:10). But, we can build/prepare so that in the end he is defeated and we are victorious! I John 4:4 - You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.

So, how do you build this solid foundation house? Read below for the steps:

I. Know what type of house you are building– In the natural, when building a house, you must first decide what type of house you want (ranch style or two-story). When building a spiritual house, you must also first know what type of house you are building. As a married woman, you are building a house that will withstand the enemies’ attempt to destroy your marriage. I Corinthians 7:34 – “An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord’s affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world—how she can please her husband.”

II. Create a blueprint for the building of the house – When researching about how to build natural houses I found the following statement on blueprints: "Plans for every aspect of building your home is the key to a successful project! By careful planning you can avoid the surprises that so often lay waste to dreams that were developed haphazardly. Every hour spent on blue prints is a good investment. With good blue prints, by the time construction begins, you should be able to supervise the project from in front of your TV." The good news for you is that the blue print has already been written. The word of God is your blueprint. 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us thatall Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. As a wife, it important that keep the agenda of God your main priority. It’s not about being right or wrong; being heard; or exercising your rights, it’s about God being exalted! I Kings 6:11 – 13 - 11The word of the LORD came to Solomon: 12 "As for this temple you are building, if you follow my decrees, carry out my regulations and keep all my commands and obey them, I will fulfill through you the promise I gave to David your father. 13 And I will live among the Israelites and will not abandon my people Israel."

III. Build the House -The actual process of building a house involves assembling the pieces so that everything is in their proper place. The contractor knows not to put the doors where the windows should be or the roof where the walls should be because each piece plays an important part in the structure and function of the house. This is the same when building a spiritual house. God has given us the equipment or the parts to use and place strategically so that our house can be solid in structure and function. When building your spiritual house, don't forget these things:

1. Prayer : Just like the walls in a natural house is used for support, prayer serves the same function in the spiritual house. Colossians 4:2 (AMP) tells us "Be earnest and steadfast in your prayer [life], being [both] alert and intent in [your praying] with thanksgiving". Prayer grounds us and keeps us stable because it evokes The one who is mighty and powerful, God. God is very clear about his desire to support his children. In Isaiah 59:19 God promises that when the enemy comes in like a flood, He [God] will lift up a standard against him [the enemy]. So, we see that when the enemy comes trying to blow our house down, God will not allow it to be so!

2. People: It is rare that you see someone, in the natural, building a house alone. It is a very demanding task, and sharing the load, helps it not to become overwhelming. This is also true when building a spiritual house. God established relationships to be a resource for us when building our spiritual homes. There is power in numbers. Deuteronomy 32:30 reminds us that if one can chase 1,000, then two can chase 10,000. Also Matthew 18:18-20 says, "Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

3. Praise: Praise is another resource to use when building a house! Praise to a spiritual house is like the window on a natural house, it lets the light into the house. The windows of a natural house lets the sun shine through and it changes the atmosphere of the whole house. Well, much like that, praise lets the SON in, and when he comes in the whole atmosphere changes! Psalm 22:3 tells us that God inhabits the praise of his people!

Be encouraged, and I pray that you are building a house that is pleasing to God.
